Intensive care and most transplant and oncology units do not allow flowers or plants at all. General floors usually do, as long as the arrangement is low, unscented and in a vessel that will not tip. When in doubt, send it to the house for when they are home.
Everyone sends something in the first three days. If you want your flowers to matter, send them in week two, when the room has emptied out and the recovery is still going.
